ON-THE-SPOT ESSAY WRITING CONTEST MECHANICS
GUIDELINES FOR ENTRIES
- Open to all elementary private and public school students.
- For every student participant in the essay contest, the school he/she is enrolled in is considered as the school partner and entitled to win prizes.
- A school can have as many entries.
- A participant can assign 1 teacher – trainor/coach.
- To join, the participant should complete and submit the following:
- Cheez Whiz Palamantasan Essay Writing Competition Registration Form
- Parent’s Consent Form for Each Student/ Team Member
- 1 Cheez Whiz bottle cap for each entry

- Upon receipt of the Completed Entry Registration Form, the student will receive a Certificate of Participation, and he/she will receive a Cheez Whiz Badge.
- This is an on-the-spot Essay Writing Competition. Essays must be in English. Maximum number of words is 200. The specific topic will be given during the actual competition and will revolve around the general question: “Anu-ano ang natutunan mo tungkol sa palaman at nutrisyon?”
- Measures to ensure anonymity of entries and impartiality in judging will be undertaken. The members of the Board of Judges who will convene as as group to determine the winners will be selected on the basis of their qualifications and reputation as professional writers, authors, journalists or literature teachers.
- Winning entries will be published via newsletter and online to give inspiration to the rest of the nation.
PROCESS OF SCHOOL ELIMINATION
- A school can have as many participants.
- A school can only have 1 representative for the Regional Elimination.
- A school can eliminate its representatives using the CRITERIA FOR JUDGING THE ESSAY and JUDGING FORM (as attached).
- There must be at least 3 and a maximum of 5 judges. The judges can be chosen from the faculty and parents of the school whose student/ child is not participating in the event.
- A timekeeper must be assigned to make sure the participant does not exceed 1 hour.
- The participant that gets the highest Final Score will go up to the Regional Elimination.
- In case of a tie, the tied participant will have to rely on the number of ballots (People’s Choice Award Ballot Sample as attached) from the audience and this will be added to their final score.
- Should another tie occur, the judges will have to rescore to determine the winner.
- The school can decide the date, time and place of its eliminations.
PROCESS OF REGIONAL ELIMINATION
- A Region must have a maximum of 6 schools per region in all regions except in NCR which will have a maximum of 10 schools.
- Only 1 mom and kid team per school is allowed at this level of elimination.

- Kraft and its affiliates will eliminate the teams using the CRITERIA FOR JUDGING THE SANDWICH and JUDGING FORM (as attached).
- There must be at least 3 and a maximum of 5 judges. The judges will be chosen by Kraft and its affiliates who have no affinity up to the 3rd degree of consanguinity to the participating schools, students and mom.
- A timekeeper must be assigned to make sure the teams do not exceed 15 minutes. A deduction of 1 point from the Final Score of the team will be deducted for every minute or a fraction thereof on overtime.
- The team that gets the highest Final Score will go up to the National Finals.
- In case of a tie, the tied teams will have to rely on the number of ballots (People’s Choice Award Ballot Sample as attached) from the audience and this will be added to their final score.
- Should another tie occur, the judges will have to rescore to determine the winner.
- Kraft and its affiliates will inform the Region of the venue, date and time of the National Finals.
- Cash Prize can be utilized for expenses needed to compete for the next level of elimination.

PROCESS OF NATIONAL FINALS
- The Regional Team Representative must go to Manila on ___ (venue, time and place)
- Only 1 mom and kid team per Region is allowed at this level of elimination.
- Kraft and its affiliates will eliminate the Regional teams using the CRITERIA FOR JUDGING THE SANDWICH and JUDGING FORM (as attached).
- There must be at least 3 and a maximum of 5 judges. The judges will be chosen by Kraft and its affiliates who have no affinity up to the 3rd degree of consanguinity to the participating schools, students and teacher – trainor/ coach.
- A timekeeper must be assigned to make sure the teams do not exceed 15 minutes. A deduction of 1 point from the Final Score of the team will be deducted for every minute or a fraction thereof on overtime.
- The team that gets the highest Final Score will be declared National Champion Team. The 2nd and 3rd place will go to the next highest scorer and so on.

- Should another tie occur, the judges will have to rescore to determine the winner.

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD
- Each attendee of each elimination round will be given a ballot (People’s Choice Award Ballot Sample as attached) allowing the audience to vote for their favorite team to win.
- The ballots will help determine the winner/s in case of a tie in all levels of elimination.
- During the Regional Elimination and National Finals, an on the spot purchase of Cheez Whiz gives the attendee more ballots to increase the chances of his/her favorite team to win the People’s Choice Award.
- The People’s Choice Award is given to the team with the most number of ballots regardless of their ranking or place in the Regional Eliminations or Grand Finals.
